Role Overview
Security Officers assigned to passenger vessels support the safety, order and professional operation of international maritime assignments. The role combines continuous situational awareness with calm communication, discretion and the ability to work effectively in a structured, guest-facing onboard environment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a professional security presence during voyages and port calls.
- Support the safety and security of passengers, crew and vessel operations.
- Conduct assigned monitoring, observation, patrol and access-control duties.
- Operate and monitor designated security systems following company training and vessel procedures.
- Identify and report security concerns, risks and incidents through the appropriate chain of command.
- Support the prevention and controlled response to disruptive behaviour and other onboard security incidents.
- Cooperate professionally with vessel officers, crew members and relevant port authorities.
- Maintain discretion, composure and professional conduct in a passenger-facing environment.
- Follow company, vessel and assignment-specific security requirements.

Candidate Requirements
- Minimum one year of professional experience in the military, law enforcement or private/commercial security sector.
- English-language proficiency at a minimum B1 level.
- Good physical fitness and a professional appearance.
- Strong situational awareness, reliability and professional discipline.
- Calm and respectful communication in a multicultural, passenger-facing environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate through the appropriate chain of command.
- Ability to work effectively with vessel officers, crew members and security-team colleagues.
- Readiness to work onboard for an extended maritime assignment.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Documentation and Certification Pathway
Maritime documents and certificates are required before deployment. However, candidates who do not yet hold all relevant maritime qualifications are still welcome to apply.
Applications are initially assessed according to professional background, experience, suitability, English-language capability and availability. Candidates progressing through the process may receive guidance on the documents and certificates required for the relevant opportunity.
- Valid passport.
- Valid Seaman’s Book.
- Valid maritime medical certificate, such as ENG1 or an accepted equivalent.
- STCW Basic Safety Training certificate.
- STCW Crowd Management certificate.
- PDSD, SSO or another accepted maritime-security certificate, according to the assignment requirements.
- Recent criminal-record certificate.
- Valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate where required by the operating area.
- Recent drug and alcohol test when requested before deployment.
- Relevant military, police or commercial-security service record.
- Certified English translation of the service record where required.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Employment and Deployment Conditions
Passenger-vessel assignments operate in an international maritime and guest-facing environment. Specific employment terms may vary according to the contracting company, vessel and operational requirements.
- International onboard assignments aboard passenger and cruise vessels.
- Typical contract duration of approximately six months.
- Worldwide operating environment.
- Work schedules are determined by vessel operations, with onboard and port breaks according to the applicable roster.
- Flights, hotel accommodation and assignment-related transfers may be arranged and covered by the contracting company.
- Medical insurance may be provided under the applicable employment contract.
- Shared onboard accommodation may be provided according to the vessel and employment terms.
- Assistance with obtaining relevant maritime and security certifications may be available to suitable candidates.
- Compensation and joining conditions are confirmed individually before deployment.
